International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI)

The International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI)  is a global initiative that aims to link, develop, and strengthen national public health institutes (NPHIs) using an evidence-based international framework for development and to improve the world’s health by leveraging the experience and expertise of its member institutes to build robust public health systems. IANPHI serves as a professional network of NPHI directors who collectively comprise a unique global resource of shared experiences that together strengthen national public health capacity and diminish collective vulnerabilities around the world.

Founded in 2001 by Dr. Jeffrey P. Koplan, former director of U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and international colleagues, IANPHI currently has 124 members (98 National and 26 Associate Members as of February 8, 2024) from 104 countries. The peer-to-peer partnerships and regional networks of IANPHI help these member NPHIs to learn from each other’s experiences, build capacity, and collaborate to respond to regional and global public health challenges.

The IANPHI U.S. Office is based at Emory University within the Emory Global Health Institute. The U.S. office conducts supports strengthening NPHIs through a cooperative agreement from the U.S. CDC by providing technical and direct assistance, as well as developing tools for members (e.g., case studies, webinars, best practices, etc.) The IANPHI Secretariat is currently located at Santé publique France, the French public health institute and serves as the membership coordination and policy arm.
