Development and Psychometric Evaluation of a Health Sexual Communication Measure for Young Women in Gaborone, Botswana for HIV Prevention
Mabel Magowe, Doctoral Fellow, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing/Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
Ms. Magowe is a doctoral fellow at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. As a Global Health Institute Field Scholar, she conducted data collection in Botswana for her dissertation entitled, "Development and Psychometric Evaluation of a Health Sexual Communication Measure for Young Women in Gaborone, Botswana for HIV Prevention.” The purpose of the study is to develop and evaluate measures that explore beliefs and perceptions of young women aged 21-35 years about discussing safer sex with their male sexual partners. Existing instruments may not be culturally relevant or sensitive, which therefore justifies the need for the study. She is partnering with the University of Botswana, located in Gaborone, Botswana.
She took the pictures below during her global health field scholars experience.
