Partners in Global Health: Emory University and the Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica (INSP) of Mexico

The Partners in Global Health Program builds on an existing collaboration between Emory University and the Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica (INSP), located in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The purpose of the Partners in Global Health Program is to strengthen and significantly expand this existing relationship, and as a result, create new and innovative opportunities for interdisciplinary global health programs. The Partners in Global Health Program establishes formal mechanisms for creating student/faculty collaborative experiences in research, teaching, and service, and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration by involving multiple disciplines and departments across Emory University. Specifically, the program:

• Develops a broader and self sustainable research portfolio in global health between the INSP and multiple Emory University schools and departments,
• Generates self sustainable educational opportunities in global health for students and faculty of both institutions,
• Develops global health partnership opportunities with Mexico and other countries in Latin America, and
• Strengthens the capacity of both institutions.

While there is a rich history of cooperation between Emory and INSP, collaborative work has been limited to topics such as nutrition, infectious diseases, environmental health, and child and maternal health. The Partners in Global Health Program facilitates the inclusion of more disciplines, particularly the social sciences. By supporting the partnership between Emory and INSP, the Global Health Institute promotes the development of cutting edge research, capacity building initiatives, training, and student exchange activities leading to improved global health.
