Faculty Distinction Fund Awardee Dr. Leon is an Assistant Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory's Rollins School of Public Health. Prior to joining Emory's faculty, Dr. Leon was a post-doctoral fellow with the Hubert Department of Global Health where he mentored students and taught a popular course on global parasitic infections. Dr. Leon's research interests include neglected tropical diseases such as Chagas Heart Disease pathogenesis as well as global foodborne and waterborne diseases such as noroviruses. He has expertise in the fields of immunology, epidemiology, and public health, and was the recipient of a prestigious post-doctoral fellowship in human immunology from the Dana-Irvington Foundation. His long-term research goal is to investigate how populations can be protected from infectious diseases by understanding and boosting their immunity to the diseases that threaten them. Dr. Leon has published several articles in the peer-reviewed literature as well as four book chapters on infectious disease epidemiology. He received his doctorate from Northwestern University.
