Community Influences on Adolescent Sexual Health

The Emory Global Health Institute has provided seed funding to establish a research program that will examine community influences on sexual behavior and HIV in Ghana, Malawi, Uganda, and Pakistan. Researchers from the Rollins School of Public Health have access to Guttmacher Institute data on adolescent sexual behavior in the three African countries. They will use the seed funding to conduct a preliminary analysis of data collected from a survey of adolescents in Pakistan. This work will be conducted in collaboration with the Health Sciences Academy of Pakistan. Once this preliminary analysis has been conducted, Emory researchers will prepare a grant proposal for the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development that will examine how community influences shape adolescents’ sexual behavior in the two regions.
