Migration and Cardio-metabolic Risk: Obesity and Diabetes among Foreign-born People in the United States

In April 2007, the Emory Global Health Institute sponsored a workshop entitled “Migration and Cardio-metabolic Risk: Obesity and Diabetes among Foreign-born People in the United States.” This workshop brought together a multi-disciplinary team of experts with a unified interest in migrant health. The goals of the workshop were to share cutting-edge science on the understanding of migration and cardio-metabolic risk in the U.S. and to foster new ideas and research collaborations on this topic. The result of this workshop was the development of a Network of Migration and Disease (NOMAD), a research network that will focus on collaborative efforts to advance our understanding of migrant health both in the United States and globally.
