Events AIDS at 27: Turning Hope into Action The Emory Global Health Institute co-sponsored AIDS at 27: Turning Hope into Action, an event recognizing World AIDS Day 2008. The event featured a panel discussion among the following HIV/AIDS experts: James W. Curran, MD, MPH, Dean of the Rollins School of Public Health and Director of the 1981 CDC Task Force charged with investigating the first cases of what became known as HIV/AIDS; Sandra Thurman, CEO of the International AIDS Trust; Nikita Lalwani and Sonia Faleiro, contributing writers to AIDS Sutra: Untold Stories from India. The event was co-sponsored by the CDC, the Emory South Asian Studies Department, the Claus M. Halle Institute for Global Learning, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Center for AIDS Research, the Peace Corps, and the AARPCV. The event took place on December 2, 2008 in room 120 of the Emory University School of Medicine.
