Global Health Institute Individual Field Scholars Quick Links The Global Health Institute Individual Field Scholars Program promotes student learning by linking academic study with practical experience in the field. Individual scholars conduct short-term global health projects focusing on underserved and/or vulnerable populations around the world. Applicants can conduct projects either abroad or within the United States, however, they must demonstrate a significant need in the population with whom they propose to work. Scholarship recipients will receive up to $3,000 to conduct their projects. Working Across Cultures In addition to conducting a global health project, individual field scholars are required to attend a course focusing on cultural sensitivity, health, and safety issues while working abroad. Stay tuned for information regarding the spring 2010 workshop. Who can apply? Emory students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 are eligible to apply for Individual Field Scholar Awards. Applicants must have prior research experience/appropropriate coursework and/or have participated in a relevant independent project. Applicants must have an Emory and an in-country field mentor, and they must partner with an in-country organization. Proficiency in the project country's primary language is preferred, but not required. Students must be enrolled at Emory the semester following their experience.
