Internal Advisory Committee Lynn M. Sibley, RN, PhD
Dr. Sibley’s work has focused on innovative approaches to safe childbirth in low resource settings, where maternal and newborn mortality rates are high and where home birth is still the norm. She is co-author of the American College of Nurse-Midwives’ Home-Based Life Saving Skills, a participatory community-based strategy which aims to reduce mortality by increasing access to basic life saving measures within home and community and to reduce delays in referral in the event of obstetric complications. Dr. Sibley’s current research focuses on the influence of cultural norms and women’s social networks on the recognition of life-threatening obstetric complications such as postpartum hemorrhage, help-seeking behavior, and health system response; as well as systematic review of Traditional Birth Attendant training effectiveness on health behaviors and pregnancy outcomes. Dr. Sibley earned her undergraduate nursing degree at the University of Colorado, an M.S. degree in nursing and midwifery at the University of Utah, and an MA and PhD in anthropology from the University of Colorado. |
