Marla E. Salmon, ScD, RN, FAAN

Marla Salmon is Dean and Professor at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Professor at the Rollins School of Public Health, and founding Director of the Lillian Carter Center for International Nursing. She is an expert in health policy and administration and has held national government, professional, and academic positions. She has extensive experience in healthcare workforce development, having served as the director of the Division of Nursing of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Dean Salmon has served as chair of the National Advisory Committee on Nursing Education and Practice for the U.S. Government and as chair of the Global Advisory Group on Nursing and Midwifery of the World Health Organization. Additionally, she has been a member of the White House Task Force on Health Care Reform, served on the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies Committee on Rapid Advance Demonstration Projects and the Nursing Panel for the Committee on Monitoring the Changing Needs for Biomedical and Behavioral Research Personnel Study, the Nursing Advisory Council of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the National Academies, and a participant in the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Think Tank. She is also a member of the Boards of Trustees of the National Council on Healthcare Leadership and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
