Shariffa Saif Al-Jabri

Shariffa Saif Al-JabriShariffa Saif Al-Jabri is Advisor for the Oman Ministry of Health, where she focuses on issues concerning nursing and midwifery. Al-Jabri is a leader in the promotion of health standards for nursing services in her country. She is a member of the Joint Committee of Oman and China, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) advisory committee for nursing and midwifery in the eastern Mediterranean region, as well as various planning committees within the Ministry of Health of Oman.

Al-Jabri has served as President of the Oman Nursing and Midwifery Council since 2001 and works closely with professionals in the Ministry of Health, including legal advisors, nurses, midwives and physicians. A midwife, Al-Jabri served from 1982-1987 as the head of the maternity unit at Khoula Hospital in Oman, a busy maternity unit delivering 6,000 babies annually. In 1987, she became the regional head of maternal and child health, and from 1994-2007 she served as the head of the registration and licensing section of the Ministry of Health.

Al-Jabri is a graduate of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (MS ‘98) and was a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at the Rollins School of Public Health from 1995-1996 before receiving her nursing degree. She also received a diploma in nursing and midwifery from Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College (KCMC) in Tanzania and a diploma in Maternal and Child Health from London University in 1986. She is the winner of the 2007 Emory University Sheth Distinguished International Alumni Award, which recognizes Emory University’s international alumni who have distinguished themselves in service to universities, governments, private sector firms or nongovernmental organizations.
